Avoid Bill Surprises with Usage Alerts

During the winter months, electricity use can rise quickly and often quietly. Heating systems may run longer during overnight freezes, or a malfunctioning thermostat or water heater can use more energy than normal without obvious signs. The good news? You have more control than you may realize. SmartHub Usage Alerts can help you avoid surprises on your monthly bill. When enabled, Usage Alerts notifies you if your electricity use exceeds (or falls below) limits you set, giving you early insight to adjust your usage or to catch potential irregularities before they impact your bill.

In addition, SmartHub users receive a mid-month email update showing how much electricity they’ve used so far, along with an estimate for the rest of the billing cycle. This update is provided for awareness only and doesn’t require any action. Mid-month usage emails are currently available for non-solar accounts, with solar account support coming soon.

How SmartHub Usage Alerts Work

Through SmartHub, you can create alerts that notify you when your electricity usage reaches high or low thresholds, on an hourly or daily basis. To help you define and set these thresholds, start with your average usage from past bills. You can use SmartHub to review your typical usage by going to the homepage and clicking Usage. The tools there will help you figure out your typical energy consumption, letting you set meaningful limits that reflect your usage habits.
