WAKE FOREST, N.C. – Wake Electric is currently accepting applications for the Wake Electric Scholarship Program. Students can apply for both the coveted Fred M. Alford Scholarship, as well as a number of Touchstone Energy Scholarships. The deadline for these scholarship applications is March 29 by 5:00 p.m.

All applications will be under consideration for one of the two scholarship categories. Students only need to submit one application to be considered for both scholarship programs.

Wake Electric will award one scholarship of $2,000, called The Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship. The Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to the top candidate selected by an independent judging panel. This scholarship is in memory of a former Wake Electric employee, Fred M. Alford. Requirements for this scholarship:

– Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of a Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
– Must be a high school graduating senior (cannot already be attending college)
– Must pursue a four-year undergraduate baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution in North Carolina

Wake Electric will also award 16 scholarships of $1,250 each, called the Touchstone Energy Scholarships. These scholarships are not limited to recent high school graduates, and may be used at one of the state’s community colleges, vocational or technical schools, as well as at a four-year college. The requirements for these scholarships are:

– Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of a Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
– Must use these funds at a North Carolina college or university, community college, vocational or technical school
– Applicants can be a high school graduating senior or already enrolled full-time in a university, community college, vocational or technical school

Applications must be received in the office by March 29 by 5:00 p.m. Any applications received after the March 29 deadline (even if they are postmarked March 29) will be disqualified. Applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April.
