Time of Use (TOU) is a special rate schedule that rewards consumers who choose this rate for using electricity during off peak periods, allowing them to save money on their monthly electric bills.
If you can shift your household activities around the on-peak hours, you can save money. You can do this by:
- Putting a timer on your water heater
- Using programmable thermostats
- Doing laundry before or after peak times
- Turn the dishwasher on before watching the late night news.
When you sign up for TOU, you’ll agree to remain on the schedule for at least one year. If you go back to your old rate, you will be charged a $20 fee to cover the administrative tasks associated with changing your rate.
