Wake Electric’s board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jackie Ellis Thompson, Sr. to the vacant At-Large director seat on its board.
Thompson resides in Wake Forest and stands as a well-respected figure in the local farming landscape, serving as the President, Owner, and Operator of J & J Thompson Farms, Inc. His family’s multi-generational farming legacy dates back to a land grant from King George III, underscoring his deep-rooted connection to agriculture. He holds a degree in Business Administration and served six years in the NC National Guard.
Thompson brings a wealth of experience, having previously held the position of President of the Wake County Farm Bureau for 28 years, and he is currently serving on various boards, including the Wake County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, NC Farm Bureau Board of Directors, NC Farm Bureau Executive Committee, Tobacco Growers Association Board of Directors, NC Agribusiness Council Board of Directors, and AgCarolina Farm Credit Board of Directors. He is an active member of the community and the church, contributing as a choir member, Sunday School co-teacher, and having served as a former member of the Deacon Board.
Wake Electric, a not-for-profit electric utility, operates under the guidance of a nine-member board of directors, elected by co-op members annually in March. Thompson’s first Board meeting will be held this October. The organization looks forward to the valuable insights and contributions that Thompson will bring to the board.
