It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the loss of Wake Electric Board Member Allen Nelson, who passed peacefully at his home on May 31, 2026. Nelson served on the Wake Electric board of directors for twenty-three years, representing district one. He served as vice-president of the board from 2024 until his passing.
“As vice-president of the Board, Allen brought thoughtful leadership, steady judgment, and a genuine concern for the members and communities served by Wake Electric,” said Mike Dickerson, president of the Wake Electric board of directors. “His contributions cannot be measured solely by the meetings attended, policies adopted, or projects completed. His voice carried wisdom, his decisions reflected integrity, and his actions always demonstrated a servant’s heart.”
Prior to joining the Wake Electric Board, he served as a board member of the cooperative’s not-for-profit charitable corporation, WECare, and on the Wake Electric Nominations and Resolutions Committee. A U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong resident of Granville County, Nelson proudly called Stovall his home. He was deeply rooted in the county he loved and dedicated his life to bettering his community. Nelson served on numerous local boards throughout his life in support of that commitment, and remained active at the time of his passing on the Granville County Crimestoppers Board and Granville County Planning Board.
“Allen embodied the cooperative spirit in every sense of the word,” said Jim Mangum, CEO and general manager of Wake Electric. “He cared deeply about people, his community, and the members we serve. He will be remembered by all at Wake Electric for his smile, patience, and enduring kindness.”
