Celebrating NC Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 14
Today Monday, April 14, Wake Electric is joining electric cooperatives across North Carolina in honoring the dedicated lineworkers who help power the homes, schools, and businesses throughout our communities. Governor Josh Stein has officially proclaimed the second Monday in April as Lineworker Appreciation Day in North Carolina, recognizing the critical role these essential workers play in delivering safe, reliable electricity across the state.
Wake Electric is proud to celebrate the hardworking lineworkers who serve our communities day in and day out. Beyond maintaining and repairing our local grid, Wake Electric’s lineworkers embrace opportunities to connect with the community in meaningful ways. Throughout the year, they visit school truck and career fairs, youth events, offering hands-on lessons about electrical safety and energy efficiency. By engaging with local youth, they inspire the next generation to explore STEM fields, learn practical skills, and understand the vital role electricity plays in modern life.
This past year, their dedication shone even brighter when Hurricane Helene brought significant outages to Western North Carolina. In the spirit of mutual aid—one of the core principles of electric cooperatives—Wake Electric lineworkers traveled to the affected areas, worked long hours in difficult conditions, and helped restore power swiftly to thousands of families and businesses. Their efforts exemplify the cooperative commitment to supporting neighboring communities whenever and wherever needed.
“Wake Electric’s lineworkers are truly the backbone of our operation,” said Jim Mangum, CEO and General Manager. “They go above and beyond for our members and neighbors across the state. We’re incredibly proud of their service and dedication, and we invite everyone to join us in thanking them for their outstanding work.”
