Wake Electric Lineworkers Lend a Hand at Boy Scout Camp

Recently, a crew of Wake Electric lineworkers volunteered their time and equipment at Camp Campbell, a Boy Scouts of America camp, to help install a new totem pole that symbolizes the rich heritage and enduring values of scouting.

Arriving with trucks, specialized equipment, and a genuine desire to serve, the lineworkers showcased the hands-on expertise that sets cooperative workers apart. A crew went out in September to dig the foundation and set the steel beam before concrete was poured in September 2025 to prepare for the pole. Linemen went out last week to finish the job by setting the totem pole in place.

“We’re proud to help out youth organizations like the Boy Scouts,” said Cory Lawrence, Line Superintendent at Wake Electric. “Being part of a cooperative goes beyond keeping the lights on—we answer the call to serve our community in every way we can.”

Camp Campbell, known for its natural campsites and year-round scouting activities, promotes self-reliance, teamwork, and respect for nature to young scouts. The addition of the totem pole enriches the camp’s legacy, serving as a powerful reminder of the scouting values upheld on its grounds.

By lending their skills and volunteer spirit, these lineworkers ensured a successful installation and reinforced Wake Electric’s dedication to supporting community. Their efforts highlight the many ways lineworkers contribute beyond the keeping the lights on.
