Wake Electric Debuts the Giving Library: A Book-Sharing Box for Kids
As the season of gratitude and giving approaches, Wake Electric is excited to announce the opening of the Wake Electric Giving Library, our newest addition to the ‘Giving’ family. The Giving Library is a year-round children’s book-sharing box that fosters a love for reading and provides access to books in our local community. It can be found at our Wake Forest, located at 100 S. Franklin Street.
Our Giving initiatives began with the Giving Fence, a seasonal clothing drive offering cold-weather essentials such as jackets and coats to those in need. Open from December 2 to February 2, the Giving Fence ensures our community stays warm during the coldest months. Later, the Giving Box was introduced to address food insecurity by providing a year-round community food pantry. Both programs have become key examples of how we uphold the cooperative principle of concern for community.
The Giving Library joins these efforts as a space for children to discover the joys of reading and sharing. The Giving Library allows children to take a book and either return it or replace it with one from their own collection for other children to enjoy. We kindly ask that donated books be in fair condition and suitable for children and teens, ranging from infant board books to young adult novels.
“The Giving Library was inspired by a local teacher who recognized a need in our community, and Wake Electric was proud to make it happen,” said Suzy Morgan, Wake Electric Board Director. “It’s a natural fit for us at the co-op because of our commitment to support the communities we live in and serve.”
If you make a trip to visit our Giving Library, we ask that you also consider making donations to our Giving Box or our Giving Fence. The Giving Fence opens on December 2nd and welcomes donations through February 2nd of any coat or jacket or cold weather accessories for adults or children. When the Fence opens, donators can simply hang their items on the ‘fence’ which is located on the S. Franklin Street entrance of our Wake Forest building. Before and after that time please do not leave items on the fence as we need to keep it clean and safe. The Giving Box accepts donations year round of any food items that are non-perishable and do not have glass containers.
