WAKE FOREST, N.C.- Wake Electric seeks applicants for a $1,000 scholarship for college, plus a free, all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the 2012 Rural Electric Youth Tour. The deadline for students to apply is March 15 by 5:00 p.m.
Students who win the two available North Carolina Rural Electric Youth Tour spots, sponsored by Wake Electric, will join 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the United States government. Students also visit the historic sites of the nation’s capital, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. Students will also get a chance to meet with their congressional leaders. The trip will be from June 15-22, 2012.
Applicants must be current high school juniors in Wake, Durham, Johnston, Vance, Granville, Nash or Franklin counties. Applicants do not have to live in households served by Wake Electric in order to win.
The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the winning students the following year upon proof of enrollment in a college or university.

The Youth Tour is funded through voluntary member and employee donations through the Operation RoundUp program.
