Wake Electric College Scholarships

2025 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN!

Every year, Wake Electric awards scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to continue their education at a college, university, community college or technical school. Altogether, Wake Electric awards $22,000 in college scholarships to local students. Funding for scholarships is made possible by Wake Electric members and Wake Electric employees through WE Care Foundation.

Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) – Requirements include:

  • Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of an active Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
  • Must be a high school graduating senior (cannot already be attending college)
  • Must pursue a four-year undergraduate baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution in North Carolina

Touchstone Energy Scholarship ($1,250) – Requirements include:

  • Must be a child of or under legal guardianship of an active Wake Electric member or live in a home served by Wake Electric
  • Must use these funds at a North Carolina college or university, community college, vocational or technical school
  • Applicants can be a high school graduating senior or already enrolled full-time in a university, community college, vocational or technical school
  • Completed application including financial information.
  • Application information MUST BE TYPED or application will be disqualified.
  • Transcript from high school, college or university, community college, vocational or technical school.
  • Two-page, double-spaced essay that describes the student’s career goals and how they intend to achieve them and explain why they believe they should receive the scholarship.  ESSAY MUST BE TYPED and should NOT be more than two-pages.  The essay should show a thoughtful and original approach.
  • Three letters of recommendation (the judges prefer thoughtful and original observations).

Please note: Any applications received after the March 14 deadline (even if they are postmarked March 15) will be disqualified. Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-April, 2025.
