12:00 p.m. – Yesterday, at about 2:15 p.m., the storm front swept through our territory for about 15 minutes. In that time, our outages rose to approximately 6,000 homes. Half of those outages were due to a Duke Energy transmission outage in Louisburg. Duke’s outage lasted approximately 1.5 hours, and once restored, we were back up in the Northeast section of our service territory.
As for the other outages, we had issues in Knightdale, North Zebulon and New Light. Most of our engineering and operations staff worked through the night and we made great strides to get our outages down to about 30 homes by daybreak.
At 7:00 a.m. this morning, 35+ mph gusts did even more damage than we experienced last night. Again we saw outages rise to approximately 6,000.
As of 12:00 p.m., we have approximately 1,600 members out. We have had 11 broken poles which take a significant amount of time to safely replace. We will continue to make great strides over the next 8 hours and we are hoping for the wind to calm down to help with our restoration efforts.
Thank you for your patience as our crews work as safely and quickly as possible to restore all power.
2/7/2020 at 7:50 a.m. – There is a Wind Advisory for central NC until 5:00 p.m. today. The National Weather Service expects significant tree damage including falling limbs and branches. With the soil soaked from the rain, uprooted trees are also expected. This weather may cause outages but, as always, our crews are ready to respond and are currently working on the existing outages.
Please remember to stay away from downed power lines and anything touching them as they might still be energized and are dangerous.
If you are experiencing an outage, please report it by calling us at 919.863.6499 or 800.743.3155.
