Update on Hurricane Joaquin: though weather forecasts call for Joaquin to remain offshore, central NC is still scheduled to receive major rainfall totals of 4 – 8″ through Monday morning. If the winds pick up, there may be power outages – the ground is saturated with rain and trees could topple into power lines and poles. You can check real time outages on our website at www.wemc.com. Just click on the outage map. To report outages, call 919.863.6300 or 800.474.6300. Wake Electric is closely monitoring the weather and our employees are ready to take action.
Remember, be prepared for extended outages by checking flashlight, battery and water supplies. Families with special medical needs should make plans for extended outages should they occur. And always stay away from any power lines that are sagging or have fallen. Report any downed power lines to Wake Electric and the police department. If a power line falls across your car – remain in your car. If you must exit the vehicle due to a life-threatening situation, jump clear of the car and land on both feet. Be sure that no part of your body is touching the car when your feet touch the ground.
